Main activities and functions

  • Geological prospecting, thematic and testwork/methodical works targeting precious metals within the Russian Federation as part of public contracts.
  • Methodical support of precious metal prospecting within the Russian Federation conducted by subsurface users funded by the federal budget.
  • Data composition to form the precious metals’ basis of mineral base sustainable development programs at the federal, regional and territorial levels.
  • Review of proposals from territorial authorities, geological enterprises and mining companies on geological prospecting, setting the priorities and sequence of precious metal prospecting at various stages within the Russian Federation.
  • Compilation of mineragenic and prognostic-metallogenic maps for gold.
  • Expertise and approval of gold and silver reserves and inferred resources by different-scale metallogenic taxons and the Russian Federation subjects.
  • Creation and monitoring of specialized data banks on precious metal metallogeny.
  • Consulting geological organizations and mining companies on the department activities.
  • Research aimed at laying geological, metallogenic and scientific-methodical basics of precious metal mineral resource (including nontraditional and new sources) identification and evaluation based on quantitative models of mineralization processes, systems and deposits.
  • Geological prospecting, research, subject-specific, experimental and methodical works in precious metal deposits geology, forecasting, prospecting and evaluation.
  • Evaluation and analysis of precious metal inferred resource status within the Russian Federation, its subjects and regions.
  • Scientific and methodical support of geological prospecting ensuring federal, regional and operational target-oriented programs implementation enabling efficient and accelerated precious metal subsurface stock replacement.
  • Complex study of different-scale metallogenic taxons – provinces, zones, ore districts (clusters) and fields, precious metal deposits.
  • Compilation of information databases on precious metal metallogenic sites.
  • Recommendations on innovative technology and equipment introduction to precious metal prospecting and evaluation.
  • Compilation of specialized mineragenic and prognostic-mineragenic maps (1:2,500,000 – 1:50,000 scale) of metallogenic provinces and zones, ore districts and clusters, prognostic and specialized geological maps (1:25,000 – 1:2,000 scale) of ore fields and prospects.
  • Evaluation of national subsurface geological study and precious metal prospecting results.
  • Collection of materials to publish maps, atlases, etc. (inluding their digital and online versions), monographs, scientific overviews, methodical manuals, specialized reference and information materials.
