FSBI “TsNIGRI” participates in PGM conference in Johannesburg (South Africa)

On July, 24, III Russian–South African PGM conference was held; it was organized by Mintek and led by D.N. Kobylkin, Minister of natural resources and ecology of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the joint intergovernmental committee on trade and economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Africa. S.G. Mantashe, Minister of mineral resources of South Africa, also took part in the conference moderated by T.S. Mokoena, General Director of the Department of Mineral Resources of South Africa.

The conference was held on the eve of the 10th BRICS summit (25-27 July, 2018, Johannesburg, South Africa). The conference aimed to develop relations as part of the Memorandum of cooperation between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of South Africa in cooperation relating to platinum-group metals (PGM).

On July 23, an expert meeting of the Russian–South African working group on platinum-group metals was held to finalize the drafted roadmap focused on implementing prioritized cooperation between the two ministries as part of PGM cooperation. The roadmap envisages participation of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources’ institutes and other organizations as well as Mintek and other interested parties.

According to the PGM conference program, presentations by Russian and South African experts in public cooperation policy, PGM deposit study and prospecting, innovative PGM benefication and recovery, illegal PGM trafficking prevention and use expansion were heard. FSBI “TsNIGRI”’s presentation title was: “Flowsheets of PGM sand and ore benefication based on PGM composition, modes of occurrence and size”.

As part of the conference, Mintek exhibited innovations in new material study and laboratory technological equipment.
